Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster by Short's Brewing Company

This past weekend I was able to attend the FestivALE host by One Eyed Betty's in downtown Ferndale. This event included live music, roasted meat, and delicious craft beers from Breweries from around Michigan. One Eyed Betty's hosted 44 different brews from Short's Brewing Company and although I didn't have the chance to taste all 44 beers, I did get a chance to indulge in some Shorts Brews that I haven't seen in stores, one of those beers was the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

The Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster gets its name from the acclaimed book Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. According to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

"the best drink in existence is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, the effect of which is like having your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick."

Although the Double Belgium IPA has an above average ABV at 8.4% it doesn't get you wasted right off the bat. This is a good thing, because I enjoyed this beer very much.  It smelled of citrusy hops, sweetness, and Belgian yeast. The taste of it was a maltier then I expected. Very bitter, with a grapefruit taste and sweet pale malts. Overall I would say this is an 8/10. If I find this beer again I will for sure have another glass or two. It was delicious and well deserving of the name Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
