Blitzen - Festivus Ale by North Peak Brewing Company

I have found my favorite Santa's reindeer and his name is Blitzen. While hanging out last night I decided to crack into the holiday mixer-sixer I had recently grabbed from 8 Degree's Plato. The first beer I reached for was Blitzen - Festivus Ale by North Peak Brewing Company. Blitzen - Festivus Ale is a Winter Warmer with a 6.8% ABV that pours a deep plum red with two fingers of tan head with countless carbonation bubbles. It smells of dark fruits, I believe my nose ditected hints of cherry, fig, and raisin, with a slight floral hoppy presence. The flavor of the beer started out bitter, more bitter then I would expect from a winter ale. The hoppy bitterness was offset by light caramel notes with a gentle fruity finish. This beer would be great as a year around ale, I would not consider this a Christmas time ale, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't grab more Blitzen - Festivus Ale's. I give this beer a 7/10 rating.
