Bell's Brewing Company has started to release The Planet Series. The most recent being Venus, The Bringer of Peace. The Planet Series started with Mars, The Bringer of War in August 2014. It is a Double India Pale Ale with an ABV 10.1%. Venus is the second in the Planet Series and is a Blonde Ale Brewed with Honey, Apricot, Cardamon, and Vanilla. I was able to find this rare beer at a local bar in Royal Oak, MI called The Rock on 3rd. The Rock is a great bar just 1 step up from the classic dive bar. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap and even more served in bottles.I missed Mars when it was first available. So this past Saturday when I saw on Twitter that Westborn Market had only a couple more left, I decided that I had to have it. I quickly traveled up Woodward Ave to Westborn, but I was too late. I decided that I would try my old faithful craft beer store, 8 Degrees Plato. Again, Venus was out of stock at Plato.
I contacted my friend Nick who was able to get his hands on Mars. He told me he found Mars at The Rock on 3rd, so we decided we would meet and see if they had Venus in stock. When we arrived that Saturday night I was delighted to find out that they did, in fact, have Venus in stock. They served it in a bottle, according to Bell's website Venus is recommended to be served in a snifter.
Venus is a very fruity tasting beer. I really tasted the Apricot, and Vanilla. I wasn't a huge fan of how over powering the fruit flavor was. I am glad that I was able to find one of the Plant Series. I now know where I can find them in the future. Next up in the Planet Series will be Mercury. Mercury will be a Belgian Single and will be available in December 2014.
