PDX Carpet Indian Pale Ale by Rogue Ales

Me and Good'ol Mt. Hood
Oregon was my home for the first 15 1/2 years of my life. I love Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Where ever I go Oregon is where I'm from no matter what. I love Oregon so much I have thought about getting a tattoo of the state and our one professional sports team, the beloved Portland Trail Blazers (don't worry mom it's only a thought). One thing that any true Oregonian knows about is the PDX carpet.

Ever since my first flight from Portland to Augusta, Georgia to my last flight out of Oregon for my friends wedding the carpet was a constant. When you landed and stepped out of the plane you knew where you were, welcome to Portland, Keep it Weird. Though I never lived in Oregon at drinking age, I spent my 21st birthday in Portland and many more times since then for some beers and fun.

Next to Michigan,  I would say Oregon has one of the best craft beer scenes. The breweries I love the most are Deschutes Brewery and Rogue Ales. When Rogue released the PDX Carpet IPA I knew I had to have it, if not just for novelty sake. Thankfully Rogue Ales ships their beers directly from their website to your front door. That is when I ordered the PDX Carpet IPA and Sriracha Stout. I hope to move back to Oregon one day and enjoy all the wonders of the Pacific Northwest and the great craft beer being made in that region.

PDX Carpet Indian Pale Ale - Rogue Ales

ABV: 6.4%

Look: 3.75
Smell: 3.25
Taste: 4.0
Feel: 3.5
Overall: 3.5

The PDX Carpet IPA has been sitting in my fridge for over 2 months now. The time has come to pop that top and enjoy the taste of a classic IPA that has the power to take me back to the place I was before.

Lite smell of the hops, rising up in the air.
Theres some head in the glass now, pours golden to sight.
My mouth watered and my taste grew wide,
I did enjoy it that night.
As I poured into the glassware;
I hear the bubbles rise
And I was thinking to myself,
"This IPA could be very good, or it could be Hell"
Then I took the first sip and I opened my eyes,
The hoppy taste hit my taste buds, I thought it was so fine.
Welcome to the PDX Carpet IPA.
Such a lovely beer (Such a lovely Beer)
Such a lovely taste
I wish I had more of the PDX Carpet IPA
Maybe Rogue will hear
And they'll send them here.

OK, if you can't tell that was my pour attempt to write song lyrics about the PDX Carpet IPA to the tune of The Eagles - Hotel California. You can't take yourself too serious, especially if you love craft beer.

Ok, back to some impaired journalism. The IPA poured with a dark golden haze with about two fingers of white head on top. There was a lite hoppy aroma emitted from the beverage with a hint of piney goodness. The first sip was a bit surprising, the taste was what I expected from a good IPA but the body was a bit peculiar. First the taste, similar to the nose the taste was hoppy with hits of citrus and pine notes dancing around my tongue during the after taste. This is the flavor I have become accustomed to when drinking a good IPA. The body was less carbonated then I expected. I am chalking this up to the time spent in the fridge before consumption. As it warmed up a bit the carbonated bite showed its head, but not too much. Overall this beer wasn't just for novelty but was a good tasting IPA. I applaud and thank Rogue Brewery for brewing a beer that was able to transport me back in time to a wonder place like the Portland International Airport. For those about to drink, we salute you PDX Carpet IPA.
