Two weeks after the season 5 finale for Game of Thrones the cooler has been buzzing with theories about the way the season ended and what is up next for Season 6. Before my trip to Brazil I was up to speed on all the episodes of Game of Thrones. At the time I was at Season 5 Episode 7. During my trip Episodes 8, 9, and 10 aired. The way social media is today it was very difficult to keep spoilers at bay. Along with social media spoilers, I had started the fourth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, A Feast of Crows.
So far, from what I can tell, each season has been loosely aligned with the books. With the exception of Season 3 and 4 splitting A Storm of Swords and bleeding into A Feast of Crows by the end of Season 4. If you know anything about the books then you may know that A Feast of Crows and A Dance with Dragons run parallel time lines with Crows focusing on Jamie, Cersei, Brienne, Sam, Sansa, and Dorn while Dragons focuses more on beyond the Narrow Seas and the Wall.
Reading the Crows while knowing whats going on in the HBO series allowed my imagination to soar with the possibilities of how certain scenes would play out in the show. When I returned home and through social media the word on the street was that the last three episodes were the best three episodes of the season. Needless to say, my expectations where high.
After landing, making it home, and showering I turned on HBO On Demand and started in on the last three episodes. I won't ruin anything for those that still haven;t seen the season, seriously get on that shit people. All I will say is that my expectations were too high and they were not met. When I got to work the following Monday I was able to discuss the season with my two co-workers who both have read/listened to the books and watch the series. The conversations were fun, the thought of what will happen next season is great. Especially since the HBO Series has caught up with the books.
What do you think will happen? Through casting leaks it seems that we will be heading back to the Iron Islands next season. There is an interesting story like in Crows about the Iron Islands that will be interesting to see on the small screen.
Dragon's is next on my list after I finish The Martian. After Dragon's I will be stuck like the rest of the Song of Ice and Fire fans. The author, George R.R. Martin says he is working non stop on finishing book 6, which is currently titled The Winds of Winter, which won't hit shelves until 2016 at the earliest. According to an article by James Hibberd for Entertainment Weekly, Martin says "My plan is to finish in seven, but my original plan was to finish in three. I write the stories and they grow. I deal with certain things and sometimes I find myself not at the end of a story. My plan right now is still seven." I will be anxiously awaiting box 6 once I am through with Dragons.
Reclamation IPA - Ore Dock Brewing Co.
Just like a good book, a good beer can make or break your evening. Tonight's beer was brewed with a blend of Pacific Northwest hops and English malts, producing a well balanced taste profile that will please any IPA fan. Thanks again to my brother Matt for bringing me these beers after his last trip up to Marquette, MI. I hope to one day visit the UP to try more beers that Ore Dock has to offer.
This beer pours with a kind of burnt Orange color with a small white head. While drinking, the beer gives a good lacing around the glass especially at the top of the glass. The nose has a light fruity smell, I believe it is grapefruit. The flavor was what led me to believe that the smell was grapefruit. This beer wasn't anything more then a well brewed IPA.
